performing arts

At PHS, we believe the fine and performing arts are essential to a well-rounded education. While not every student will pursue a career in the arts, the creativity, expression, and appreciation they gain through artistic experiences enrich their lives in lasting ways.

Instrumental Music

Where Sound Meets Skill

Instrumental Music is a vibrant part of student life at PHS. Through concert band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, and small groups, students gain hands-on experience with musical performance while developing discipline, teamwork, and technical skills. Beyond learning to play an instrument, students grow in creativity, confidence, and collaboration. Instrumental Music helps students connect with others, express themselves, and strive for excellence, on and off the stage.

Play Production

Creativity Takes Center Stage

Play Production offers students a hands-on, collaborative experience creating live theater. From acting and directing to set design, lighting, costumes, and stage management, students explore every aspect of the theatrical process. Along the way, they build creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills. Through rehearsals and performances, students develop responsibility, teamwork, and confidence. The One Act is one of our favorite annual productions.

Vocal Music

Inspiring Minds Through Music and Theatre

Vocal Music offers students the chance to explore their voices and grow as musicians. Through solo and ensemble work, they develop vocal technique, music theory, sight-reading, and performance skills. Choir, vocal groups, and an annual school musical promote collaboration, discipline, and emotional expression. Students gain confidence, cultural awareness, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. They perform at concerts, competitions, and community events throughout the year.

Support the Arts

“Platteview Fine Arts Friends”

The Fine Arts Friends organization at Platteview supports key arts programs like One Act, show choir, vocal music, art, speech, and the musical. As members, parents help with fundraising efforts, provide hands-on support, and assist with volunteering for various events. Through meetings, members stay informed on upcoming needs and can contribute both financially and with their time. All Fine Arts parents are automatically members, ensuring that every student has the resources they need to thrive creatively.
